Super cute cartoon that my friend Borin T. posted in our CBS FaceBook Group. My bettas do this everyday when they see me! That's why you want to do very good flare training. My technique is outlined in the How to Send Bettas to a Show page. The CBS Fall Show Report up be up soon! Life is busy. Just got back from the iGEM Giant Jamboree science competition yesterday and I am incredibly proud of my students! The team was 5 recently graduated high school students and 5 undergrads from around the Bay Area. They performed graduate level research during the summer at UCSF, and they really knocked it out of the park! Out of almost 300 research teams from around the world, we took home the Gold Medal (full-filled many difficult requirements), the Best Project in our Track (Information Processing), Best Wiki (website), AND were nominated for Best Presentation!

There really are some fantastic looking bettas out there that seem to break all the genetic rules! Here are a few whose pictures I have collected. As you know, I love yellow and red. Combine that with dragon, and you get a really unique and beautiful betta! I love this one because he looks like a Jackson Pollack painting. He sold for a whopping $300 dollars on Aquabid, and the matching female went for $65! When bettas go for prices like that, you just have to hope that they spawn LOL The (closed) auction can be found here.
This is an awesome feature article on Betta habitats by AMAZONAS! It argues (quite successfully in my opinion) that Bettas in the wild are extremely site-restricted and territorial by nature, and so do not require much space in captivity.
This just in - iPhone 6 Plus was announced today, and guess who was featured on the cover! Pretty awesome :)
