I don't usually have a lot of art (save my bettas). I am so so happy that I have an original piece by the great Harrison Liu. Thanks Harrison! This will definitely have a place in my fishroom forever :)
Isn't it absolutely beautiful?! My friend is an incredibly talented artist, as well as a planted tank enthusiast and also happens to be a bioengineer at UCSF. Well-rounded guy ;) He regularly takes advantage of the 3D printer and the laser cutter in the advanced technologies lab for his projects haha. Or maybe I shouldn't have said that?

Here I am going to present some of my favorite betta books in my collection. Having good, solid resources to fall back on is the best way to up your betta game! The internet is not always the most reliable source of information. It is always better to go to serious hobbyists that have tried and true knowledge. My dear betta friend Stacy F. took some amazing photos of her new babies :) They just recently had a successful spawn! I love it when I can be a betta grandma! With her permission I am posting her amazing photos. The blue female is the female that I spawned most recently. The male also sired a spawn at Yvonne C.'s house before being sent over to Stacy's. The copper female is the female that Stacy used.
Sharing your bettas with your friends ensures that if something catastrophic were ever to happen to your fishroom, there is likely to be some related fish out there that you can recover. It's also so exciting to see related fish show up at the shows and say, I know where that one came from! Sharing bettas with other hobbyists is a huge part of why the hobby is so much fun!
I am currently teaching medical microbiology at University of San Francisco. I absolutely love what I do! And I love my students. I try to incorporate active discussion during lecture and as many activities as possible. I really don't like to drone on in lecture for very long - it's an 8am class and even I am barely awake. Some fun things we have done in the past are vaccination debates, research article journal clubs, and just this morning, bacteria jeopardy! That game got surprisingly cutthroat, but I guess I can't expect any less from highly-driven pre-med and potential graduate students :)
Come one, come all, to the first ever online betta show! Hosted by California Betta Society, this is a rare opportunity to receive feedback from judges all over the world! Please refer to the show information in the flyer, and remember to take the BEST video/pictures that you can. Videos or pictures that are blurry, hard to see, or have fish that are not flaring will be extremely difficult for judges to critique. Note: We will be using the IBC standard for this show, since CBS is an IBC-associated club, but this show is not affiliated with or sanctioned by the IBC.
For videos, please say you have videos in your email and send them to me via GoogleDrive (preferred!!), Box (second preferred!) or dropbox. We hope to see your fish at the online show! I would love to see any bettas from my followers here :) |
