CTDT 011213

Crossray CT below is possibly related to the foundation CT on the right!
Spawn 081412
Picture
Foundation CT mal by Siambellis. His very broad dorsal hinted at the possibility of DT carrier.
Picture
Marble DT female by Siamimbellis. Her nearly perfect body and beautifully straight edges on her full and even lobes really made this a stand-out female!

Best combtail female DT out of the spawn
With this spawn, I hoped that the outcross male (possibly related to the foundation male) would also carry DT, or at the very least, produce some CTs carrying DT. This male has outstanding deportment and beautiful finnage on a relatively strong body (although there is a slight scoop in the topline). I am particularly fond of his thick and substantial crossrays. He is also unique in that he is a true and full halfmoon CT!

In the female, I like how all of her unpaired fins are overlapping without any gaps, and the relatively straight outer rays on the caudal. Her combing, although subtle, is even all the way around. I wasn't sure if I would get combtails and crowntails out of this cross. I do not like her bumpy topline and weak peduncle, or the short rays at the front of her dorsal and anal.

Spawn Results

To be honest, spawn results were somewhat disappointing. For one reason or another, this spawn took an extra month to grow out, and the bodies seemed to be particularly weak. I was really hoping that the thick crossrays, impressive caudal spread, and deep webbing reduction of the sire would be passed on, but this was not the case. I do not know whether this was a rearing issue (my fault) or a genetics issue.
Picture
Strange topline, but great caudal spread (difficult to see in this photograph). SO HARD TO PHOTOGRAPH. Also minimal ray reduction and non-red.
Picture
Some pastel, poor DTs. Incomplete and uneven split. Non-red.
Picture
Another poor DT, this time with banding only on the caudal?

Wowza! First convention ever!

Despite my doubts, two of the girls from this spawn did very well at convention, and my little "triple A battery" female (barely legal limit!" actually capture RBOS!

She was typified as a grizzle female, and for a female CT, her webbing reduction is impressive. Her caudal spread is ok, but her topline is very smooth and the balance between her unpaired fins is impressive. Her biggest fault to me is that her body is so insubstantial - her waspish caudal peduncle makes me fear that she could break in half in a spawning embrace!

Looking good! And she spawned really well with my CTDT, despite my initial fears of her being broken in half lol.
