CTDT 021413 Valentine's Day

Spawn 051812
Picture
Foundation CT mal by Siambellis. His very broad dorsal hinted at the possibility of DT carrier.

No picture of the dam. Dam was bred by Sieg Illig, and was a turquoise blue female DT. She had a bumpy topline, but full and even lobes with a slight bump on the peduncle. She carried grizzle.

Back cross to the foundation male above.
Picture
I attributed her greatly unbalanced body and finnage to her terrible rearing, and decided to give the backcross a shot.
Spawn 021413 - Valentine's Day
Picture
My very first male bred and raised by me! What a relief! I was starting to think I could only raise females! His rounded fin edges are a bother, but his extremely full dorsal is a definite plus. I really love the STs in this line.
Picture
My favorite betta bred to date!
With this cross, I hoped to solidify and continue the good qualities of both brother and sister. I wanted to see whether I would continue to get broad dorsals and good webbing reduction, as well as recover the CTDT target phenotype.
Picture
Favorite female out of the spawn. Almost a carbon copy of her mother!!
Picture
Dreaded non-red expressers. Also uneven lobes and bumpy topline on this one, along with unbalanced finnage.
Picture
Again uneven lobes and unbalanced finnage, with the added headache of the red band only occurring on the caudal fin!
Picture
First CTDT to date!!
Picture
Many good and bad qualities...but at least something to work with!
The late arrival of my first CTDT really made me happy! This one was definitely a late bloomer. His body is nice and smooth throughout its length (although he does have a scoop above his eyes). Although there are no peduncle bumps, he does have very uneven lobes :/ However, he has impressive webbing reduction for having HM DT only two generations away. His dorsal mirrors the forward thrusting anal nicely, however I am wary of the 3 stubby rays at the front of the dorsal (a severe fault in the IBC standards).

I am going to wait until I see the results of my CTDT outcross (spawn 050313 with the same mother) before determining what my next step should be. I already see better caudal splits in that spawn than in this one. It might be worth doing a brother x sister spawn, or I might cross the triband sister with a male from another spawn.
