Black Traditional Plakat Project

Picture
Black traditional PK brought back from Kampffishfreunde, Friedrichshaffen, Germany in March 2014. By Josip Kevari (Croatia) out of Peter Barwald's lines (Germany).

One of Peter Barwald's stunning black traditionals. This was the F3 from Trad.PK Superblack x Trad.PK Superblack.
I have always admired the black traditional plakats in Europe, and I was so incredibly pleased to get a couple of pairs stemming from Peter Barwald's line through Josip Kevari! Peter was able to provide pictures and some of the background to the creation of his black traditional PKs:

Peter Barwald: I bought the first Superblack Trad. PK from Aquastar71. With each subsequent spawn's offspring I saw red get more and more black. So I tried to get this great black into a longfin line. I took a Superblack Trad. PK and bred him with a Red HM female. A few generations later I got the first Superblack HM. All offsprings in this line always show red before black, mostly into the fins. It was the same black as by the Trad. PK.

When I took a blue female bred with the Superblack Trad. PK I did not get a Superblack or deep black. I got only a Melano Black which is more grey than black. I never tried it with a metallic blue or a copper, but I heard that copper can make the grey deeper.
