CTDT 051812

Picture
Foundation CT mal by Siambellis. His very broad dorsal hinted at the possibility of DT carrier.

No picture of the dam. Dam was bred by Sieg Illig, and was a turquoise blue female DT. She had a bumpy topline, but full and even lobes with a slight bump on the peduncle. She carried grizzle.
With this foundation cross, I hope to establish a CT carrying DT line, with my eventual goal being a CTDT line. I hope that the thickness and strength of the DT will bolster the doubled up and flowing rays of the CT.

This was my very first spawn, and I didn't do too well with it. I only had ONE surviving betta! How she managed to survive the terrible ammonia spikes and my reluctance to hatch BBS is a mystery. She only had one ventral and had quite a bumpy topline. Miraculously, she was a combtail DT! Funnily enough, she was grizzled betta, affirming that Sieg's turquoise lines do carry grizzled recessively. She also had red-loss, which caused her to lose all red wash on the ends of her fins at about 4 months of age. This little trait will plague me in the future, in my quest for tribanded butterflies.

I was a little unsure about breeding her back to her dad, but I decided to pursue it in spawn 102012.

I attributed her greatly unbalanced body and finnage to her terrible rearing, and decided to give the backcross a shot.
