Gorgeous CTPK female by Jamie King, mother of the female that I brought home! Photo from spawn log PE26082013 on the Bettas4All forum: http://www.bettas4all.nl/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=10936&start=30
I wasn't able to get a good pictures of the female prior to spawning. However, it was a very gentle spawn, and only one ray was damaged. Jamie wanted to see how they would do at the MBC show, so I sent both of them right after spawning!

The male's color has changed so quickly in the space of 2 weeks! He was beautifully marbled all through his body and fins...for about 2 days. As I was bagging them for the show, the male was almost completely white O_o. Perhaps the stress of spawning triggered the rapid color change. Thmale has too long ventral and anal fins, which interfere with the balance of the unpaired fins. The female is very similar to her sister pictured above, with the exception of a scale fault on her right side (which Jamie believes was an injury in the growout rather than a genetic endowment). She has wonderful webbing reduction. There is also a chance of CTDTPKs! I am very excited to see what comes out of this spawn!

July Update: So far I am not too impressed with this spawn. It was a small spawn, and a lot of them seem to have red wash all over, which is interesting because neither of the parents have this wash. Perhaps they lose it later due to the red-loss gene? I will have to speak with Jamie and see if this is the case.

Update 092014

I am SO happy I didn't give up on this spawn!! They are turning into some of my favorite fish in my fishroom :) Overall, pretty good webbing reduction and fun marbling. I can't believe how aggressive CTPKs are. Even looking at them from across the room triggers a territorial response.
Picture
My favorite, but of course difficult to photograph. Nice body and decent webbing reduction.
Picture
Anal is a little long, but cool marbling. This spawn did not have as good caudal spread as the previous CTPK spawn.
Picture
Runty male with some curled rays. I hope he is the only one to show this trait!
Picture
Lovely female. Broad dorsal and no branching in the rays. Nice tight finnage. Definitely another breeder prospect.
