Spawn 112512- Thanksgiving
Picture
Foundation light-bodied, clean, and INTENSE yellow show HMPK male by Pichet (Interfish, Thailand).
Picture
Darkbodied, intense red show HMPK female by Sieg Illig.

Spawn 040613
Picture
Favorite pineapple male out of the F1 spawn. BOV shortfin traditional PK male at Convention.
Picture
Nice body and fins, and impressive spread for having only a 2 ray split!

Spawn 080715
Picture
Male is a dark red (some iridescence) with a little bit of a mix between show and traditional - only primary branching in the 180 rounded caudal, but the dorsal is a tad too broad and the anal and ventrals are not long enough. However, I hope that crossing him with his pineapple sister, who has very long ventrals for a female, will remedy that.
Picture
The traditional form of my females is really nice and consistent now :) She has no iridescence, very long ventrals for a female, and a 180 tail with only primary branching.
This will be the F4 of the red/yellow traditional PK line. In the previous spawn, only one male and two females survived. the male could be better - he has a mix between show and traditional traits. The female is great traditional form, including very long ventrals for a female. Both have only primary branching. Hopefully the female balances out the male and I can get the traditional male forms from the previous generations to resurface! I can't believe that I almost lost the reds and yellows!

I am very happy that there is only primary now!
Update 032016
Unfortunately, I again had an extremely skewed spawn - nearly 100% of the offspring are female. I only got two males, one of which has decent traditional form. The females are consistently good looking traditional plakat females with excellent color.

I started my credential program at SFSU to teach high school and am also teaching medical microbiology again at USF. My life has become even more busy while I try to launch my new career as a teacher, which requires lots of networking in addition to the lesson planning and grading that I do every day. With heavy heart I must make decisions about what lines and species I can devote my time to and also do a good job of raising. With the last several spawns yielding somewhat disappointing results, I believe that I will instead focus on the crowntail plakats and give what reds and yellows I have left to another breeder who can continue the line. I am saddened that it seems that traditional plakats are becoming few and far between compared to their show plakat counterparts, but I have to make choices with what I can do as a hobbyist. Perhaps one day it can be resurrected again!
