Red/yellow traditional PK spawn (RY080715)

Since I had an empty spawn tank open, I decided to put these two together. The red male is the sole male from the last 3 spawns of red/yellow PKs that I did. He has some good traits and bad traits, and I hope that he throws offspring that look more like his father/grandfather. I think the female will help balance out his poor traits.

Initially she had him on the run!
As you can see below, the male is a mix between show and traditional PK form. One thing that I love about my red/yellow PKs is that their bodies are getting longer and leaner - more like the original fighters. He does have a bit of a scoop in his topline, but I don't consider it severe or deformed. This dorsal is more like that of a show PK. It is broad and the profile is wider, instead of snapping open like a fan. The dorsals in this line are pretty weak, which is a point that I will have to keep in mind (hopefully when I have more to select from in the next generation!). The caudal is decent - I now only have primary branching with 180 spreads! The anal should be a little longer and sweep back past the caudal, but I do like the single, sharp point. The ventrals are definitely one of his weaker attributes. They should be twice as long! I love his red color, but the iridescence in the caudal and the white tips are distracting.

The female on the other hand is one of my favorites. Smooth topline drawn like a bow, long body, 180 caudal with primary branching, and best of all, those super long ventrals! Hopefully that can compensate for the male. Again, the dorsal should be rounder like a fan, and the anal could be a little more pointed (although this is very difficult to achieve in females).

Only boy! We will see what he throws

Pretty female :) Hopefully she doesn't get too beat up :(
We will see what happens with this spawn! I really hope to see some throwbacks! It really makes it difficult when you only have a few fish to select from. Luckily, the females are very consistent - we only have to work on the males now!

She is a pretty feisty female :)

Rawr attack the dreaded finger!

Underneath the nest :)
It was a very very small spawn, and it's hard to see fry in the tank. I'm crossing my fingers that I have at least a dozen or so hiding in there! It's amazing how fry can just disappear until they get bigger!
