New Spawn logs! CTPK form 402014 and Black Traditional PKs

Sorry it took a while for me to update! I have two new spawn logs to share. Both spawned on 4-20, so I have "high" expectations for these two! Click on the green links to their spawn logs which have much more detailed information.

Sister to male. Female pictures is actually sister to actual female used (was not able to get a good pic of her yet). Very similar except for a scale fault on the right side, hopefully due to a grow-out injury
Very excited for the outcome of this spawn! There is even a chance of CTDTPKs :D

Another shot of the sire - one of my favorites :)
This spawn should be very interesting. I do not have a good picture of the female that I actually spawned yet (too lazy). Since the brothers and sisters are quite variable, this spawn will probably have a lot of different phenotypes to work with. Josip told me that about half of the spawn have red/black butterfly patterns, while the other have are pure black.

Although the female below was in the chimney for less than 24 hours, I found to my dismay that she dropped all of her eggs :( I quickly substituted her eggy sister (literally just dropped her in) and they spawned within 12 hours. I am considering doing away with the chimeny completely in future spawnings - however I do like that the male has time alone to prepare the nest when using the chimney.

Brother to sire. His form reminds me of the original fighters!

I have stopped using the chimney long ago, only occasionally if I have an overly aggressive male or female. I usually keep them secluded for at least 3 days before introducing them. My most recent spawn I allowed the pair partial viewing for about 18 hours (overnight) before putting them in the spawn tank to see if that makes a difference.. usually with my seclusion I get a spawn within 24hrs, so far it's just been 26hrs and no spawn yet from the partial viewing technique.

And I am watching your CTPK spawn as I may want to purchase a pair (if you sell them).. once one of my red Show PK juvies get large enough I will be starting my line of CTPK using red/wild colorations. Also going to be breeding here shortly a blue pair - DTPK x DTCT gene PK.

Hi Meredith! Great to hear from you :)

I think I am going to do away with using chimneys as well. The female losing the eggs was *very* disappointing. I won't be setting up another spawn for a long time (probably late summer/early fall to prepare for Spring shows). I'm definitely going to try this though.

Would love to trade stock - let's get those CTPK classes going in the US! I'm also excited to be playing around with metallics. Non-iridescent fish take forever to fully color, and it is exciting that my young metallics are already covered with shiny copper :)
