My last CT spawn has not been doing well - they are severely stunted from either traveling neglect or from a bad genetic match up. I will have to think hard about what direction to take the CT project when I start spawning again in the spring. I might possibly do an ST x ST cross - it seems that injecting too much DT might actually be harmful. I would like to backcross my BOS female to her import father, who is still going strong. He's my bedside betta and never fails to put on a show when he sees me! He must be close to 2 years old...
Despite my real life woes, I have a lot of good back up pairs for the future :) I am constantly amazed by how resilient bettas are to somewhat benign neglect, as well as my wilds. My little colony of burdigala juveniles is maturing nicely, and it is very interesting to watch their social interactions! They are very bold, unlike their shy parents, and are comfortable with me lying next to the tank with my chin propped up on my hands for minutes on end. It's difficult to tell which are male or female still. The only one I can definitively tell is male is the alpha male, who is gloriously colored up like his father :)
Hopefully I will have some fresh material in the spring! I hope everyone is having a great betta day!
