It's SHOW TIME!

This is where I will display our show results from all the shows that I send to, as well as write show reports for the ones that I am able to attend.

Click on the button to find out how to send your own fish to the show! If you take it one step at a time, it's pretty easy!

How Bettas are Judged

David S. was kind enough to let me follow him around at all the CBS shows, and he really made me want to become a judge. Here is a video taken by Christine T. of David walking me through a female DT class at a show last year.

Bettas are judged on how close they come to the IBC Standards. They are judged on a point system that is categorized by slight, minor, major, and severe faults according to the standard. The more points a betta gains, the more faults that they accumulate, and the less ideal they are according to the standard. The betta with the least amount of points (and faults) should win the class.

Super fun CBS show, as usual. I was particularly looking forward to this show because I was able to apprentice with Dr. Lucas!

At our second show, our CTs did very well...largely because there were no other CTs in the classes :( We need more CT breeders!
One of my pineapple males won the pairs class with a pineapple female, and then went on to win BOV Shortfin Male (out of 23 in his division).

I was scolded by one of the judges to put his brother into the traditional PK class (instead of the form and finnage class) - she said that his brother would have won the show! Just goes to show you that how a fish performs at one show, under one set of judges, could be very different under another set of judges. Always review the standards carefully and try to put them in the class that gives them the best chance, no matter what.

Tiny yellow mellow wins 3rd in the show HMPK
Our show HMPK ladies also did well, and placed 1st and 3rd in the same class (out of 7). My tiny little intense yellow girl was finally big enough to go to the show - she was barely 1.25". The clean yellows in this spawn grew MUCH slower than their red or pineapple counterparts.

Little red show HMPK lady won RBOV out of 25 in her division
My very first male that I ever bred also placed well :) He also went Reserve Best of Variety (out of 7 in his division).

I was so surprised that we did so well in our first show. I had decided to skip the New Breeder classes and head right into the Open classes, since the New Breeder classes were pretty huge. Glad I made that choice!
Our very first show ever! I sent only 7 bettas, and imagine my surprise when one of my girls swept Reserve Best of Variety Shortfin Female!
